February Purchases: What I Plan on Buying

What I plan on Buying February 2017

February Purchases: I want to start a monthly feature that showcases what items I will be purchasing. I love seeing it on other blogs and I think it’s a good way to budget each month for personal items. These are items that I have wanted for a while or need to replenish. This month, I plan on buying:

  1. AERIN Amber Musk | Sephora: This scent is divine. I am in need of a new scent. I’ve used the same perfume for years.
  2. I will be getting my hair done. I haven’t had it done for about 5 months (!!). I currently have a dark blonde ombré style, but since spring is coming, I would like to lighten it.
  3. Under Armour Leggings | SportChek: I started a new workout regime and I think I deserve some new active wear for my efforts!
  4. Ultrasonic Diffuser | Saje: I asked for one for Christmas, but I never got one. I did, however, get several essential oils. I really want to get one to help clean the air and to heal using aromatherapy.
  5. Lace up Boots | Joe Fresh: ummm.. please look at how cute these are! And for under $30, okay. I think they’ll be perfect for wet, spring weather.
  6. MAC Eyeshadow Palette | MAC Cosmetics: I am in dire need of new eyeshadow. I love every colour in this palette, so I’m gonna treat myself 🙂
  7. NeoStrata Anti Dark Circle Complex | I have naturally really dark under-eye circles. It is one of my goals to try and treat this because I do get very self conscious about them.

Grand total for February: $508.07

Are you planning any purchases for February? Let me know!!

How to Style Chunky Knits

Chunky knits are a staple in my closet year-round. I love wearing them on casual Sundays, out to dinner and even to the office. Find out how to style chunky knits with simple wardrobe essentials you probably already own.

I went shopping. But guys.. I found the best store. It’s called Plato’s Closet and it’s a consignment store that sells higher-end clothing than say Value Village or Salvation Army.

Anyways, I bought 3 really awesome sweaters costing me just over $30. Not too shabby!!

Chunky Knit #1:

It’s a beautiful ‘salt & pepper’ colour with a zipper detail that goes all the way down the back. It also kind of hangs off the shoulders slightly which gives it a bit of a sexier look. Here’s how I would style it:

I love the look of chunky sweaters with distressed jeans; it’s such a cool and cozy look that lasts from fall to spring. I added a plaid blanket scarf for a pop of colour and some dark grey booties to finish it all off.

Chunky Knit #2:

What a find. Ah.. I love this sweater to much. The aztec inspired print is so casual and cozy. It’s also quite long so you can totally wear it with leggings too.

Here’s how I styled it:

I decided to add a silkier tank under the sweater to add an element of elegance. Again, I chose to add distressed denim for that comfy look. To finish it off, I added some beige suede booties to keep the look soft and pulled together. The large necklace is one of my favourite pieces and adds to the elegance of the tank. If you work in a creative field, you could probably wear this to work. I would sub out the distressed denim for a darker pair of jeans and wear this on a Friday at the office.

Chunky Knit #3:

Ok, I was so excited to find this sweater. I absolutely love the criss-cross detail on the back. It’s on-trend without surrendering warmth. There are so many ways to style this sweater, but here’s the look I decided on:

I would wear this to the mall, running errands, going to the movies, etc. It’s a little more grungy than the other looks, but I love how the girly necklace balances out the tougher combat boots. The black jeans are high-waisted and have a small slit on each knee.  Like I said, there are so many ways to style this sweater.

How do you style chunky knits? Do you wear them to work or are they reserved for weekend wear only? I’d love to hear!

10 Daily Steps to an Amazing Relationship

10 Daily Steps to an Amazing Relationship |
I have been with my fiancé for 5 1/2 years. Sure, we’ve gone through tough times together, but we wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve compiled a list of 10 daily steps to an amazing relationship:
  1. Say “I Love You” as much as you can {we say it probably a dozen or more times a day}
  2. Feel the butterflies {I will sometimes just look at him across the room and allow myself to be flooded by the feeling of love and gratitude – it gives me butterflies!}
  3. Ask how their day was {when we get home from work, we always talk about our day with each other}
  4. Eat together {dinner time is our time. We sit down at the table with no distractions and just talk}
  5. Split the chores, but help each other out {sure, we have chores that are specifically assigned to each person, but when one of us isn’t feeling well or busy doing something else, the other steps in. Oh and we don’t hold that against one other!}
  6. Cuddle when you wake up {after that alarm goes off, roll over and cuddle! It’s a great way to start the day}
  7. Cuddle when you go to sleep {same goes for ending the day}
  8. Laugh & be silly {we play with the puppy and laugh our heads off. Also, I’ll do ridiculous dances while cooking dinner and he joins in}
  9. Send them a text message during the day to let them know you’re thinking of them {sometimes it’s just the turd emoji :P}
  10. Talk it out {it’s true what they say: never go to bed angry. We ALWAYS talk it out when we disagree or get into a ‘fight’}
I could never have asked for a better man to spend the rest of my life with. We are so unbelievably in love, it’s crazy!
Sorry for the mush.
Practice these 10 daily steps to an amazing relationship! I hope this helps 🙂

How to be a Bitch

How to be a Bitch |
Umm.. really, Jess? You’re going to tell us how to be a bitch?
Yes and here’s why – I’m too nice. I say yes to everything, get walked all over and never stand up for myself. Or I should say I was too nice.
I think that growing up and maturing gives you a different perspective on relationships and humans in general. I have always been wayyy too aware of other peoples’ feelings and put everyone else ahead of myself. This is not a good thing, especially when it comes to your professional life.
If I’ve learned anything over the past few years, it’s that you have to look out for yourself because no one else is going to. If something doesn’t seem right, stand up for yourself.
Now, a few months ago, I took this to the extreme. I actually yelled at my boss and essentially told her she’s not doing her job and is a terrible boss. While everything I said was true, I really should have toned it back and had a civil discussion with her instead of going in throwing elbows.
You live, you learn, right?
Here are my tips on how to be a bitch:

Say no.

If you’re super busy and literally do not have time for an added task, say no. You’re only one person and can only do so much. There is absolutely no benefit to saying yes and then slacking on your other work. If need be, explain this! All you have to do is say “Listen, I would absolutely love to take on this assignment, but I’m really pressed for time with the other tasks on my to do list and I don’t want to let them slide”. Wordsmith, I know.. *takes a bow*

Don’t agree with everything.

Not only will this show that you can stand up for yourself, it also shows that you are a person who has his/her own opinions. If you can, suggest something that may work better. This shows initiative and that you have a vested interest in the project. I am super jealous of my sister-inlaw because she has mastered this skill – she honestly could be a lawyer.

You don’t need to be friends with everyone.

This is the point I struggled with most. I really take it personally if someone doesn’t like me. But what I had to realize is that I don’t like every single person in the world, so why should every single person be required to like me? We all have different personalities; some of us will get along, some of us won’t. That’s life.

Don’t talk about people behind their backs – say it to their face.

Oh, mama. This one is tough too. But, if you have a problem with someone, go to them and not your co-worker. There’s a 100% chance that someone has done something to piss you off in the past. Did you talk to them about it? Or did you go behind their back and talk about how they’re such a doo-doo head (yep..I just said that). It may have been a miscommunication – work it out.

Let it go.

If someone says a mean or downright rude comment to you, let it go (sing it, Idina Menzel!). Maybe they were having a bad day. Maybe they’re just a terrible person. Who cares? If they are truly a rude person, karma will come around, so don’t let it faze you. Again, easier said than done, I am aware. Here’s what I do: I just look them right in the eye and don’t say anything. Or, if it’s on the phone, I just let them finish. They may just need to vent and you are the outlet. 90% of the time, they realize they were rude and they apologize. The stare down works LOL.
Hopefully these 5 tips will help you to be a bitch more assertive. Once you assert yourself, it is less likely that you will be walked all over.
Are you an overly sensitive person? Do you have any tips on how to be a bitch? I’d love to hear them.
